BOSS BROADCAST Manager®
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is a Network Management System [NMS] with monitoring functions (i.e. Quality Assurance) and Configuration/Service Schedules functions (i.e. Fulfillment) functions based on the OSS [Operating Support System] model.
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is intended to be used in:
- Multiplex & Playout Centers (DVB-T, -S, -C, ATSC and IPTV)
- Broadcast networks (contribution as well as distribution)
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® monitors and controls all components in a network or multiplex center. It enables the integration of devices and Element Managers from various manufacturers in one system. The whole network is shown on an easy-to-use user interface [GUI]. All faults and alarms occurring in the network are logged at a centralized management; alarm correlation is performed and the defective functions of networks elements [N.E.] are marked in color on the overview screens. This ensures simple error recognition. Any resolution operation can therefore be executed (either automatically or manually).

With BOSS BROADCAST Manager®, the entire network can be configured, monitored and controlled.
A traditional broadcast network exists of a variety of segments that depend from each other. Signals (services) are transmitted in a cascaded chain from one segment to the other.
DVB and DMB Multiplex Centers
Audio/Video feed (contribution networks)
Distribution networks
Regional locations (e.g. studios, transmitters, etc.)
In the event of an error, a fault can progress through several segments and trigger "cascaded" alarms in other segments and locations. The operator of a broadcast network must be informed reliably about the cause of the error by the network management system (NMS/OSS) and should be informed about the possible consequential errors. In order to achieve this, OpenBroadcast has an effective alarm correlation at its disposal.
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® provides the following functionalities:
Configuration of the entire network via a user interface [GUI] with graphical elements
Support of the Element Managers of multiple manufacturers
(BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is used as umbrella NMS/OSS system)
Monitoring of the entire system (by default via SNMP):
Monitoring of all network components, the regional locations (e.g. transmitter locations) and the devices in the multiplex center
Control of all devices (by default via SNMP)
Visualization of the system status
Central fault management
- fault recognition and alarm processing
- effective error correlation
- system messages for the users (monitor, SMS, e-mail, fax)
- automatic or manual redundancy switching in case of an error
Benefits of BOSS BROADCAST Manager®
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is a product that was developed in close cooperation with customers (broadcast operators, post-production houses) for the specific needs of the broadcast and media world. It is currently being used successfully in playout centers, broadcast networks and media applications
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® can be customized or expanded to meet individual demands and operating habits of the customers
Configuration and monitoring is logical and simple for the user, thanks to an intuitive graphical representation of the network, sites and Network Elements [N.E.]. The monitoring of large transmission systems is made considerably easier
Equipment from multiple manufacturers is supported by OpenBroadcast. The operator is therefore not restricted to a particular system manufacturer
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is based on a multi-tier Client/Server system architecture. (distributed systems), which enables load balancing and therefore a high degree of scalability
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® used and industry standardized Oracle database
BOSS BROADCAST Manager® is entirely coded in Java. It is therefore platform-independent
